The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the single entrance examination for students aspiring to gain admission into undergraduate courses in the recognised medical colleges of India. The exam is conducted once every year by the National Testing Authority (NTA). The candidates looking to appear for NEET need to satisfy the eligibility criterion set for the exam for a particular year.

 NEET 2022 Details

The official notification for NEET 2022 is out on the official website. It includes details of the application process, including registration dates, exam dates, and the NEET 2022 eligibility criteria. The aspirants must look at these details carefully before beginning the application process. The NEET eligibility criteria are mandatory for the applicants to fulfil to be allowed to appear in the exam.

The NEET 2022 applications are open till May 6, 2022. It is recommended that aspirants carefully go through the NEET 2022 eligibility criteria before applying. It will help ensure that their applications are processed and allowed to appear in the exam. The actual exam is to be conducted on July 17, 2022.

 NEET 2022 Eligibility Criteria

 Age Requirements

The NEET 2022 eligibility criteria for minimum age are defined as mentioned ahead. However, the upper age limit restriction has been done away with. So, the candidates meeting the following criteria can apply for NEET 2022.

  • Minimum Age – The candidate must have completed 17 years on or before December 31 2022. In other words, all candidates born on or before December 31 2005, are eligible to appear for NEET 2022.
  • Maximum Age – There is no upper age limit for candidates appearing in NEET 2022 UG examination.

 Citizenship

NEET 2022 is conducted across 543 cities within India and 14 cities outside India. The candidates appearing for the exam must meet the following citizenship-related NEET eligibility criteria.

  • All Indian citizens meeting the other relevant NEET 2022 eligibility criteria can appear for the exam.
  • Non-Resident Indians (NRI), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), and Foreign Nationals can also appear for the exam, provided they meet the other NEET eligibility criteria.

 Qualifying Examinations

All candidates aspiring to appear for NEET 2022 must have studied Science subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Biotechnology in their +2 level courses. Following are the NEET 2022 eligibility criteria for qualifying exams that are mandatory to appear for the exam.

  • Candidates must have cleared their Class 12 Board exams with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Biotechnology as their subjects. Candidates appearing for their Class 12 Board Exams in 2022 can also apply for NEET 2022, provided they pass the Board exams by completing the admission process.
  • Candidates who have studied or studied in other boards like ICSE equivalent to the CBSE Board exams and have 12 years of studies before the exam can also appear for NEET 2022. The last two years of their study must include science subjects, and the students must have English as one of their core subjects.
  • Candidates studying in any Indian University with a 3-year course in science subjects and have completed at least one year of the course also meet the NEET 2022 eligibility criteria. These candidates can also apply for NEET 2022 to gain admission to a recognised medical college in India.

 Qualifying Marks

Another important NEET 2022 eligibility criterion for the aspirants is their secured marks in their last relevant examination. The NEET 2022 eligibility criteria for qualifying marks are mentioned below.

  • General or Unreserved Candidates – 50% or equivalent.
  • Unreserved – PH Candidates – 45% or equivalent.
  • SC / ST / OBC / Reserved – PH Candidates – 40% or equivalent.

 Number of Attempts

There is no upper limit on the number of attempts a candidate can have for the NEET exam. It is an important factor as candidates who have previously attempted the exam meet the NEET 2022 eligibility criteria.
