Did you know that there are over 45,000 species of spiders? While most species will never make it into your home, they’re out there in the wild!
The spiders that live in your home are usually harmless, but that doesn’t mean you want them to stay there. Sure, they’ll eat the occasional bug, but they’re also scary to look at, and some of them bite.
We’re here with a few tips to help evict those 8-legged guests. Read on to learn more.
1. Clean Often
It is the first and most important step for preventative pest control. You want to keep a tidy house! When you clean often, you’re coming at your spider problem from several directions.
First, you’re more likely to notice spider webs as soon as they pop up. You’ll get rid of the web before it grows, and the spider will make itself comfortable in your home.
When you declutter, spiders will have fewer places to hide. Most house spiders like quiet and dark places that are tucked away. When fewer of those spaces, the spider won’t be as interested in lurking in your home.
Finally, cleaning will also prevent other bugs from coming into your home. Spiders are only there, so they can eat the other bugs. Without food, they’ll make a home elsewhere.
2. Look For and Close Entry Points
Spiders don’t magically appear in your home. However, they got in somehow, so find any potential spider entrances and block them.
Are there gaps in your windows and doors? If you like opening your window, are there any holes in the screens? Some spiders are small enough to get through screens, so they’re unavoidable, but larger ones won’t be able to get in if your screen is in good condition.
Bonus tip: a common way that spiders get in is via other objects you bring inside. Always check your belongings before bringing them in!
3. Get Rid of Other Insects
As we mentioned before, spiders are only interested in living in homes with plenty of food. If you want to eliminate spiders, eliminate the other creepy crawlies in your home.
Ants and fruit flies are common prey for spiders. So for DIY home pest control, set out ant traps and vinegar traps to get rid of those unwanted roommates.
